Cooperation - bombshell: Siri can get power from Gemini!

Apple is reportedly in early stage negotiations with Google with the aim of integrating the Gemini, the latter's leading artificial intelligence model, to Siri.

The news, which came from a Bloomberg report, has sparked intense interest in the tech world, as it could mark the biggest change in the history of Apple's voice assistant. According to reports, the new generation of Siri - unofficially called Siri 2.0- is scheduled to be launched in 2026, bringing more physical interaction and capabilities that have been missing until now.

Despite discussions with Google, Apple has not committed to a final agreement. The company is also considering other options, such as working with OpenAI (creator of ChatGPT) and the Anthropic (Claude's creator). In addition, two different prototypes are being developed within the company: the Linwood, based exclusively on Apple's in-house models, and the Glenwood, which uses third-party technology.

The two approaches are currently undergoing an internal comparison process to determine which will be more suitable for the next generation of Siri. The possible entry of Gemini into this "test" shows that Apple is not ruling out an external collaboration strategy if it ensures better results.

Siri, although a pioneer when it was introduced in 2011, has lost ground to its competitors. Google has evolved Assistant and now has Gemini, while OpenAI with ChatGPT and Anthropic with Claude offer experiences that seem more advanced and "smarter". Apple, for its part, had pursued a more conservative strategy, focusing on privacy and internal technology development.

However, rapid advances in genetic artificial intelligence have created pressure for the company to move faster. Partnering with Google could accelerate this transition, allowing Siri to immediately gain capabilities that would otherwise take years of development.

For Apple, the big stakes are to maintain the competitiveness in its ecosystem. A stronger Siri will enhance the value of its iPhone, iPad, Mac and other devices, giving users more reasons to stay loyal to the brand. For Google, a potential deal with Apple would mean having Gemini on hundreds of millions of devices worldwide, which would significantly boost its appeal against other players.

However, such a partnership also raises questions: whether Apple is willing to "open" its voice assistant to external technology, when its philosophy has traditionally been based on self-sufficiency and control of the user experience.

Discussions are still ongoing early stage, without a final decision. Reports suggest that Apple will need a few weeks or even months before it comes to a direction to take. The only certainty is that the pressure to upgrade Siri is more intense than ever.

If Apple ultimately chooses Gemini, we will see its voice assistant based on a third-party technology for the first time, which will be a historic shift in its strategy. Conversely, if it decides to invest in its own models, it will have to prove that it can reach a level comparable to the big players in the market.
