Tim Cook and Apple have officially admitted that Siri's advanced features, which were unveiled as part of the "Apple Intelligence" initiative at WWDC 2024, will be delayed longer than expected.

Although they were originally planned to be released with iOS 18 updates, they are now expected to be integrated into iOS 19, with a possible release in the fall of 2025 or even 2026.

New Siri features include:

  • Understanding personal context, such as information from emails and messages.
  • Identify content on the screen to provide relevant answers.

Deeper integration with applications to perform complex actions.

The delay is attributed to technical challenges and Apple's strict commitment to privacy, as the integration of these features requires processing sensitive data in a way that ensures user security.

Internally, the company is facing pressure, with Siri chief Robby Walker describing the delays as "ugly and embarrassing", acknowledging that the features were publicly unveiled before they were fully ready.

Despite the delays, Apple has already introduced some improvements to Siri with iOS 18, such as the integration of ChatGPT and the "Type to Siri" feature. However, the more advanced features will only be available on newer devices such as the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 16, and upcoming iPhone 17 models.

Apple is committed to delivering a smarter and more useful Siri, but the exact release date of the new features remains uncertain.
