Steve Jobs' thoughts on "courage" six years ago justify Apple's current decision to accommodate headphones.
Apple's decision to remove the headphone jack or, in Greek, the headphone jack, has divided the technology world and upset many Apple fans. Such a move, however, is exactly what Steve Jobs himself would have done.
"We try to make great products for people and we at least have the courage of our convictions to say that if something doesn't fit into a great product, we'll leave it out."
he said in an interview with Recode in 2010.

These statements by Steve Jobs are, today, as relevant as ever, since they fit perfectly with the recent words of Apple's marketing director Phil Schiller.
And he used the term "courage" when he announced that Apple had removed the headphone jack on the iPhone 7. He argued that the technology is old, that consumers are willing to try something new, and Apple wants to offer technology that will make us "better".

In reality, then, Apple has not "strayed" from the path that Steve Jobs blazed but follows his vision of the future to the letter. It was he who in the past had dared to eliminate popular products from his devices, such as Adobe Flash support, floppy disk slots, etc.
Jobs died in 2011, after a long battle with cancer, inspiring his colleagues to continue with the same philosophy. Current Apple CEO Tim Cook, design chief Jony Ivy and the aforementioned Schiller learned a lot from their former boss.
And while, ultimately, it may seem odd for a company as big as Apple to remove the headphone jack, it's a perfect fit for the way it thinks and operates.

What is striking, however, is that Steve Jobs almost had the answer to his critics ready, six years before he removed the headphone jack. And in the end, his argument that customers will ultimately decide with their wallets whether it was the right decision hides the whole essence and truth of buying or not buying a new iPhone 7.
