Apple seems to be following a similar strategy to what it has done in the past, offering users the option to stay on the current version of their operating system, even when a newer version is available.

According to Apple, iPhone users will be able to choose to stay on iOS 17.7 instead of upgrading to iOS 18, which brings new features such as Apple Intelligence.

This means that if users don't want to upgrade to iOS 18, they will continue to receive security code updates and bug fixes on iOS 17.7 for some time.

This feature is especially useful for those who either prefer the stability of the current version or are not interested in the new features offered by iOS 18.

Apple has employed the same tactic in the past, as was the case with iOS 16, allowing users to stay on an older version while still enjoying ongoing security support. This flexibility offers more options to users, especially for those who are concerned about new AI capabilities.

On Monday, Apple will also release the new iPadOS 18, watchOS 11, macOS Sequoia, tvOS 18 and visionOS 2, giving users on all platforms the option to upgrade or stay on the current versions with security support.
