Imagine shooting a video from the iPhone's dual camera, but using both lenses.

Apple seems to want to create the conditions for shooting video from the iPhone using both lenses. At least that's what the new patent filed with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office says, and it's one of the only times we're not talking about interfering with the hardware (at least we don't read that) but with the software.

Investors and technology companies file various patents from time to time, which do not materialise. Even this new Apple patent, we don't know when and if it will be implemented in a device.

But the fact that there are two windows, one of which zooms in with some kind of telephoto lens, and the evolution of the iPhone as a device that is now a "camera", started to trigger intense discussions in photography, camera and film production schools.

Apple's new idea is 71 pages long and was filed on January 5 and published yesterday at the USPTO. As we will notice, the device shown and described in the patent looks like an iPad judging by its size. We also see two windows with a volleyball player ready to serve.

The first window shows the wide shot of the scene, while the second window shows a closer idea, through the eyes of the second lens.

The patent description reads:

"An electronic device has multiple cameras and displays a digital viewfinder that shows the information displayed by the camera. The multiple cameras have different properties such as focal lengths. When we observe the viewfinder, we have the ability to zoom. There could of course be an option to separate the activity of each lens."

The user interface also allows the simultaneous display of content provided by both cameras at the same time. When two viewfinders are provided, the user interface will allow zooming and freezing of one of the two viewfinders. The device shall allow the storage of composite images or videos which have been simultaneously captured by both cameras.

As it turns out, Apple is the company that registered the idea. This is an excellent patent, which if finally implemented, will have excellent results.
