RIP to LOL! There are new ways to laugh online!
LOL. The abbreviation of Laugh Out Loud (laughing out loud) which was used extensively in the online Our discussions are now in the past. According to the Facebook, laughter, as spontaneous as it can be behind a screen, is no longer expressed with the three popular letters but with emojis, haha and hehe.

Η Research held in America at posts written in English and not in direct messages but we can also find correspondences in Greek Reality.
- The "haha" and the "hehe" are preferred more by men while women choose smiling ones emojis.
- The "lol" used only the 1.9%, while the laugh emojis are the 33.7%.
- The more "ha" the crazier the laughter. So when someone just writes "ha" laughs politely while writing "hahahahahahahahaha" has fallen down laughing.
The idea for the research of Facebook came from a New Yorker article for the online Laughter.

In the article, the author likened the ha and they're like blocks Lego. The more you put one next to the other, the more fun you have with what you read. For example:
1 ha: means I read what you wrote, I appreciate it and that's it.
2 ha (haha): means I'm having fun with what I read and maybe even burst out laughing actually.
3 ha (hahaha): means that what you wrote is really very funny but now I'm going back to work.
4 ha and above: means I laugh so hard that my colleagues in the office look at me strangely. Sometimes other letters are accidentally added to these ha, because the user writes with both hands in a hurry out of joy!

It would be interesting to extend the survey to non-English speaking countries, so that we can see real data on how they laugh online the people in Greece, the Germany, the China or the France.
