National Cyber Security Authority: Aims to prevent and counter cyber attacks in Greece.

The proposed bill of the Ministry of Digital Governance provides for the creation of a legal entity under public law called the "National Cybersecurity Authority". This new Authority will be responsible for the coordination, implementation and control of the overall strategy, measures and actions aimed at achieving a high level of cybersecurity in the country.

This new structure will be under the supervision of the Minister of Digital Governance and will act as the single and functional entity in charge of the planning and execution of the National Cybersecurity Strategy in cooperation with other competent bodies.

The aim is to effectively prevent and manage cyber-attacks, as well as to develop the digital security ecosystem in Greece.

This new structure will allow the country to cope with a number of national needs and obligations, such as:

Strengthening the Authority's capabilities and role in the implementation of Directive 2022/2555 (NIS2 Directive). This will lead to an increased number of supervised entities in both the public and private sectors.
Ensuring that citizens and businesses have confidence in high quality digital services.
Shielding the country against cyber threats and strengthening cyber security.
Promoting investment in cybersecurity and increasing the potential to use European funds.
Strengthening the digital innovation ecosystem.
Promote cybersecurity education and awareness and upgrade digital skills in the field of cybersecurity.

This bill is an important step towards the National Cybersecurity Authority responding to growing national needs and urgent EU obligations, enhancing the level of monitoring, information and support for cybersecurity stakeholders and creating a secure infrastructure environment.
