The upcoming 6.5-inch iPhone with OLED display, one of the three Apple smartphones we'll see for 2018, is expected to be the same size as the iPhone 8 Plus, according to a source familiar with the supply chain, presented by Japanese blog Mac Otakara.

The page says the 6.5-inch device could be 0.2mm thinner than the iPhone 8 Plus because of the design of the rear camera, which will consist of two lenses in a vertical arrangement. The iPhone 8 Plus is 7.5mm thin, while the iPhone X, is 0.2mm thicker.

Speaking of dimensions, the iPhone 8 Plus is 158.4mm long and 78.1mm wide with a thickness of 7.5mm. We should note that within these dimensions, the bezels are also included. The 6.5-inch iPhone, which could also be called iPhone X Plus, will have thinner bezels without the Home button, with the screen taking up the entire surface of the device, as is the case with the iPhone X.

As for the next-generation iPhone X at 5.8 inches, Mac Otakara reports that it will use the same body as the current device, but with a larger rear camera due to the presence of an equally larger sensor.

The rumors want a third device that Apple intends to launch, the one with the 6.1-inch screen, with the Mac Otakara to "reduce" it to 6 inches.

It will carry Face ID and a single rear camera like the iPhone 8. The other two devices with the OLED display will have dual rear cameras.

iOS 12 and Face ID improvements

In addition, regarding the features of the 2018 iPhones, Mac Otakara believes that iOS 12, which will "wear" all three devices and the current iPhone X, will bring improvements in Face ID.

According to the latest reports, the improvements that iOS 12 will bring to Face ID will allow users to unlock the device when it is in a horizontal orientation, while Face ID on iPhone X detects our face for unlocking when the device is in a vertical orientation.

Bloomberg's Mark Gruman reported that support for horizontal detection from Face ID is planned for upcoming iPad Pro models, which will carry Face ID and the TrueDepth camera. It seems that horizontal sensing support will yes be added to iPads, but eventually it may be integrated into iPhones as well.

The new devices are expected to have several new features as well as improved existing features, one of which is Face ID. Face ID is first generation and many users have complained that it is a bit slower than Touch ID. Something similar of course had happened with the first generation Touch ID. Over the years, these new technologies will improve significantly in the area of security and responsiveness, as we must not forget that they are the future.
