With a multitouch trick on the Apple magic trackpad you can preview a website without visiting it.
Surely you have been reading a web page where suddenly a hyperlink appears that you have to open, usually on another page, to see its contents. This kind of thing is very common on Web pages. Fortunately for Mac users who happen to have a magic trackpad or have a MacBook (and therefore have magic trackpad), life is easier because there is a trick to see that page without having to leave where they are.
To do this you need a Mac with a modern version of Safari, and therefore a modern version of OS X, and a multitouch trackpad if you have an iMac or Macmini or Mac Pro. It goes without saying that Macbooks have a trackpad built in.
How it is done
- Open Safari on OS X and go to a website that has links such as the ired.gr blog
- Move the mouse pointer over a link you want to see without clicking on it.
- Tap lightly with all three fingers together on the link. You will see a preview window open to the side showing the content of that link (as shown in the image above).
It goes without saying that you will have to wait a while for the page of this link to load in the preview window.
It's not a nice Apple magic trackpad trick; It is very useful to be able to quickly see what a link contained in a page contains without having to leave the page we are on. But that's only in Safari on Mac OS X. Check out the animated GIF below that shows it in motion.
