The new Group FaceTime feature, which has been added in iOS update 12.1, has been presented by Apple through a promotional video. With this feature, the iPhone user is able to chat with up to 32 people at the same time.

The commercial is titled "A Little Company" and features Elvis Presley, through different mimes, singing "There's always me" during a Group FaceTime call.

In addition, the video shows the interface that the feature uses and is designed in such a way that it brings to the forefront the person speaking at any given moment of the call.

Note that Group FaceTime was originally introduced as a key feature of the iOS 12 beta, but it was not ready to be released with the September update, so Apple temporarily withdrew it. Along the way it was refined and the company included it in the 12.1 update in late October.

How you use Group FaceTime

The process to use Group FaceTime is simple and we'll walk you through the steps.

  1. Open FaceTime from the iPhone home screen
  2. Press the "+" button at the top right of the screen
  3. Select the people you want to contact by pressing "+" each time you want to add a new one.
  4. Directly above the keypad, you will see the buttons for dialing audio (Audio) and video (Video). Depending on the colour they will have when you select each person, you will be able to tell which people are currently available to join the conversation. If the buttons are green, you can call them, if they are dark grey, you can't.
  5. If you now want to add more people during the video call, then tap on the three dots at the bottom right of the screen and add the contacts you want.
