It's very easy to make your own ringtone from your computer. All you need is iTunes and your favourite song!
There are other ways to make your own ringtone. But with iTunes, you won't have to visit any weird websites or install any extra software.
- 1 Open iTunes and choose the track you want to use.
- 2 Listen to the song and write down on a piece of paper when you want the ringtone to start. (minute and second)
- 3 Calculate that the ringtone can have a maximum duration of 30 seconds.
- 4 Right-click on the selected song. And select "Information". (If iTunes is in English select "Get info")
- 5 Select the "Options" tab.
- 6 Tick Start time and fill in the number you marked for the start of the ringtone next to it.
- 7 The form of time is LΛ:ΔΔ,δδδδ (where L = minute, Δ = second, δ = millisecond)
- 8 Press OK and play the song. Adjust the start so that you are satisfied.
- 9 Calculate the time for the ringtone to stop. (Up to 30 seconds from the Start time)
- 10 Set the Stop time, and have the song play on repeat.
- 11 Adjust the start and stop times until you are satisfied with the result.
- 12 When you're ready, right-click on the song and select "Create ACC version". (Create AAC Version)
*If you don't see the option Create AAC version - Below (after the video) you will find instructions on how to enable the option.
- 13 Reset the settings to the original song. Go into the information and remove the tick from the start and stop times.
- 14 In the iTunes library there's now the cut track you'll use for ringtone.
- 15 Select it and right-click on "Show in Finder" on Mac, or Show in Windows Explorer on Windows.
- 16 You will need to change the file extension from ".m4a" to ".m4r".
- 17 If you are using a Mac the renaming is simple, select the file and press enter.
- 18 If you use Windows and it doesn't show you the extensions (e.g. .mp3, .m4a, .avi, .exe etc.). In the Windows Explorer window you are in, select Tools > Folder options > View > Hide extensions for known file types - OFF or in English Tools > Folder options > View > Hide extensions for known file types - OFF.
- 19 Remove the ACC file from the iTunes music library.
- 20 Attention! When deleting from the iTunes library, select Keep file, not Move to Trash.
- 21 Double-click the .m4r file and it will automatically appear in the Tones category of iTunes.
All that's left is to sync your iPhone or iPad and select the ringtone from the device's settings.
See the instructions and in Video:
*Display the Create AAC version option
- Go to Preferences and in the tab General Select Import settings.
- Here you select Import using: AAC encoder
Click on OK on the open windows and try again!
